As segregation laws prevent him from celebrating publicly, he and his friends - Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir), Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge) and Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom Jr.) - spend their evening in a motel in an African American neighbourhood.
As the three discuss their lives and accomplishments they all agree that the world should be celebrating with them and so set out a plan to move forward the idea of racial equality.
